About Alan Highland

Thank you for taking the time to visit my website and learn more about Highland Certified Home Inspections. As a certified home inspector, I am committed to providing the most comprehensive, detailed, and succinct information resulting from my home inspection knowledge, skills, and expertise. Although home inspection certification is available via online course completion only, I received ‘hands on’ training from the National Home Inspectors Training Institute (NHITI) in Blue Springs, Missouri. As reflected in the paragraphs below, this on the job training complemented an already acquired knowledge and understanding of the professional standards and expectations involved in the home inspection process.

I have accumulated over 30 years of experience in residential and commercial building trades. My work in residential and commercial remodeling provided me with extensive knowledge, skills, and experience as an electrical analyst, rough carpenter, finish carpenter, drywall specialist, plumbing authority, and heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration technician. In addition, my 30 years of professional experience includes knowledge and skills presented by residential swimming pool complexities (e.g., chemical, physical, structural, electrical).

I am a certified member in two of the nation’s premier professional home inspection associations, National Association of Certified Home Inspectors (NACHI) and NHITI. I hold current NACHI electrical, roofing, structural certifications; as well as a master license (Wichita, KS) in heating and air conditioning. To better ensure my continued expertise in a changing economy and building trade industry, I annually complete professional development requirements that enable me to remain cognizant of the latest federal and state home inspection-related legislation, consumer product recalls and updates (e.g., appliances, air conditioners), and general realtor, home buyer, and home seller inspection expectations.

During my 28 year tenure as a Wichita State University physical plant supervisor of 12 full time staff members, I acquired sophisticated problem solving skills that allowed me to quickly identify and resolve both overt as well as covert, unforeseeable potential problems and/or complications.

As a home inspector, I desire to provide my client(s) with an increased knowledge of the inspected house and its components. In many cases, home ownership problems occur because of a lack of understanding, for example, on how moisture and water can damage both the mechanical and structural systems of a home while also impacting the longevity of painted surfaces, the performance of the roofing system and the indoor air quality of ones home.

I encourage my clients to be present and available during their inspection. With a better knowledge of the condition of a house and an understanding of its maintenance requirements, home owners are better able to make informed buying decisions that save both valuable time and money.

Thank you for considering use of my home inspection services. I am confident that you will be pleased with my professionalism and that I can put my knowledge, skills, and expertise to work for you. If I can be of any additional assistance, please feel free to contact me via telephone (316.210.5124) or through the Contact Page.
